Engineered floors are made up of multiple layers of wood that are glued together as one board. The top decorative layer is wood. The bottom layer is usually marine grade plywood. It is made with an interlocking tongue and groove system similar to standard strip flooring.
Engineered floors were developed so that they could be installed over radiant heat and because they can withstand moisture and are more stable in areas where hardwood alone does not hold up well.
So engineered wood flooring is the choice as it can be installed in any room that you choose. It is made of wood layers: The top layer is the decorative/ornamental wood but the layers below the surface are often composed of less expensive, stronger wood layers and so is more environmentally friendly as the sub-surface layers are made from scrap wood.
It's also easier to install and looks just as beautiful as hardwood flooring at a much better price that will fit almost anyone's budget.
